The CCNC is happy to announce that the 2011 Creative City Summit will take place this May in London, Ontario. Congrats to the City of London Culture Office on their successful bid! We look forward to working with them as they engage in this exciting opportunity to showcase their culture and their commitment to local cultural development to CCNC members, the local community, and the larger community of practice from across Canada.
The City of London was chosen as host municipality for the 2011 Summit in part due to its variety of unique cultural and heritage attractions, which were highlighted in their application and have provided a number of options for educational workshops, session topics, entertainment and social activities, networking opportunities, and study tours. The City of London, starting at the Forks of the Thames River, has a rich cultural heritage to experience and discover. To learn more, visit www.londontourism.ca. To learn more about the City of London’s Creative Cities Task Force and how Culture is one of their Strategic Priorities, visit their website here.
Building on the success of our inaugural Creative City Summit in Whitehorse, Yukon (2008), future CCNC annual meetings will follow the Summit format. The 2008 Creative City Summit was a departure from the conference format followed in previous years as it was designed to be more intimate and interactive to provide practitioners with a platform to exchange ideas and learn from their peers. These meetings will be 2.5 days in length, and will include study tours of the host municipality. Stay tuned for dates, details and programming – and sign up for Summit updates by email here.
The Summit bids for 2012-14 are still being evaluated and should be announced soon. Click here for more information on past in-person meetings held by the CCNC.

2010 Regional Workshops update In March, the CCNC held workshops in Toronto, ON; Sherwood Park, AB; and Surrey, BC. The meetings included presentations on the CCNC’s cultural planning and cultural mapping toolkits, panel discussions from those in the field and roundtable discussions relevant to each region. Most who attended the workshops were either considering or in the beginning stages of developing or implementing a cultural map or plan in their community. Participants were eager to learn about the steps involved and left with a greater understanding of the processes of cultural mapping and planning. Also, those who hadn’t made use of the CCNC’s toolkits prior to the workshops were given a better idea of how they could be used in practice. Participants were generally excited to go back to their communities and share what they had learned with their colleagues, and most supported the regional workshop format and noted they would like to see more of these types of meetings. Thank you to all our participants and host municipalities for making these workshops a success! Click here for presentations from the workshops.

Welcome to the Creative City Blog! |

We here at the Creative City Network of Canada are committed to bringing you the latest news, research and information on the development of arts, culture and heritage in Canadian communities. The Creative City News e-Newsletter has been a great way of delivering this information, and we hope to build on that with this blog. Updates here will be cross-posted to our Facebook and Twitter accounts, so you can follow us there to stay in the loop. We'll be using this space to let you know what's going on at head office. We'll keep you posted on our in-person meetings and professional development opportunities, as well as the status of the projects that we're working on. We have a number of exciting project ideas for 2010/2011 and we'll give you more details as they progress and become finalized. We'll also use this space to discuss the initiatives being put forward by our members and by other organizations working towards similar goals. We'd like you to get to know the people behind the CCNC and your fellow members a little better. While most of the blog entries will come from the CCNC team, Katherine Clark and Kelsey Hicks, you'll also be hearing from the CCNC board from time to time with our "Messages from the President". We've updated the website to include photos and bios of the staff team and Board of Directors, and we'll introduce you to new members as they join. We'll also be launching a "Member Showcase" feature where we will highlight what's going on in a different member municipality every month. As always, we value your feedback! Let us know what you'd like to see here and continue sending us your news and achievements.
